How to import custom ADMX/ADML into Intune

With the Intune service release 2208 there is a really nice feature that provides the support to import ADMX and ADML templates very easy into MEM. This helps to create configurations for e.g. 3rd party products. How this work I will explain based on a Firefox.

Upload ADMX and ADML

As prerequisite it is required that Firefox is installed on the device.

  • Open the MEM Portal
  • Navigate to Devices -> Configuration Profiles
  • Select Import ADMX
  • Click + Import
  • Unzip the archive
  • In the windows folder you can find the .admx file and in the en-US the .adml file

Note: Since the feature is in the public preview, only en-us ADML files are supported.

  • Upload first the mozilla files and then the firefox files
  • Click Next
  • Wait until the upload is completed

Create Configuration Profile

  • Navigate to Devices -> Configuration Profiles
  • Click +Create profile
  • Select Windows 10 and later
  • Select Template -> Import Administrative template (Preview)
  • Click Create
  • Enter a Name
  • Click Next
  • Navigate to Mozilla -> Firefox -> Bookmarks
  • Select Bookmark 01

Hint: Here you can of course configure everything you need

  • Select Enabled
  • Insert you URL and Name for the bookmark
  • Click OK
  • Click Next -> Next
  • Assign the profile to a group
  • Click Next
  • Click Create

Validate

  • Check the status in Intune
  • If everything works you can find the configuration and the status in the registry
